|About No Grain Brain|
First of all, you really MUST read 'Grain Brain' by David Perlmutter, MD. He is a board-certified neurologist, a fellow of the American College of Nutrition, and a founding member and fellow of the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine.
The book explains, in easy to understand language, how wheat (gluten), sugar, and carbohydrates have a devastating impact on our health in general, and our brain in particular. He also tells you how you must exercise and sleep well in addition to eating the type of foods he recommends. Dr. Perlmutter backs up what he says with study after study, and a huge number of references.
Dr. Perlmutter has had a great deal of success with his approach in his own practice, and knows what supplements to use, and what lab tests to run, in order to ensure success. His eating plan has been helpful for autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, intestinal problems, concentration issues, and inflammation issues.
The diet to prevent 'Grain Brain' is essentially a Ketogenic diet, and according to experts like Dr. Mercola, it is beneficial in the treatment of cancer.

No Grain Brain:
No Grain Brain is an independent site, written by a Natural Foods Chef, to help readers of No Grain Brain follow Dr. Perlmutter's guidelines. Our goal is to provide recipes for every meal of the day, and a few snacks as well, to help you have success while giving up the gluten, carbs, and sugar. Because at first of course, you think, what on earth is there left to eat when you take away my pizza, cookies, and beer?
The site owner, as well as part of her family, are following the recommendations found in Grain Brain, and we will share with you our favorite foods that we create along the way.
You are welcome to submit your favorite recipes as well, to share with our readers. (Kindly make sure they have been tested so that our readers do not waste expensive ingredients, not to mention food).
The eating plan Dr. Perlmutter recommends is high in healthy fat, with protein and very little carbohydrates and sugar. Meat is allowed, as are eggs and cheese (except for blue-cheese). Vegetables provide a lot of fiber as well as nutrients, and small amounts of low-sugar fruit. You will want to stay away from highly processed foods. If you are lactose-intolerant of course, you will not want to eat the cheese.
VG Vegan (no meat, no dairy, no eggs)
PLEASE NOTE! Always use fresh local organic foods whenever possible! Meat should be grass-fed, free of antibiotics and steroids. Eggs should always be free-range, or better yet organic yard eggs. Cheese should be unprocessed and as natural as possible. We use Real Salt, Pink Himalayan, or Sea Salt. Pepper is always freshly ground. Make friends with your local farmers and farmers markets!
